Bring your scouts to Crystal Cave for a visit they will love. There are two optional, hands on programs to choose from; geology and fossils or cave biology. Along with the science programs you will also enjoy a lead nature hike and a private cave tour. Your group will have so much fun they won’t want to leave, that’s okay, spend the night or weekend at the primitive camp site.
Rock’n’Geology Program
Merit Badge core requirements covered
Learn about geology and fossils during this 3 hour, hands-on, program.
Includes:
- Geology class session on rocks, minerals and fossils
- Make your own fossil
- Geology nature hike
- Private in cave person
- Gem panning and Prospectors Creek
- Maximum participants, 20 total people, children and adults
- For students ages 11-17
- Junior Geologist program for students ages 6-10 (not merit badge suitable)
Living Underground Biology Program

Discover the unique biology around Crystal Cave during this 3 hour, hands-on, program.
Includes:
- Learn about animals who live in and around caves
- Learn about Troglobites and surface food chains
- Learn about local songbirds
- Build your own bird feeder
- Identify insects
- Biology focused nature hike
- Private in cave program
- Maximum participants, 20 total people, children and adults
- For students ages 11-17
Group Camping
Extend your visit with a stay at the primitive group campground.
Our Group camping areas have picnic tables, fire rings and large mowed grass areas.
These group camping areas must be reserved in advance.
You may park your cars and light RVs in the grassy areas of the two group campsites. Tents are quickly pitched in the shade of the surrounding trees and the Sinkhole Nature Trail and Prairie Trails are nearby.
Includes:
- Modern Restrooms, no showers (medium walk to building)
- Potable water (at restroom building)
- Fire Ring
- Complimentary firewood, and you may collect additional downed wood
- No outside firewood maybe brought in (due to emerald ash borer)
